I Stand in Awe

Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him!

Have you ever stood at the edge of an ocean’s tide or hiked through a forest of trees, maybe gazed across a field of flowers or stood at the top of a mountain? Nature is so beautiful and breathtaking. I have my favorite spots and every time I get the privilege of sitting quietly among nature, I am filled with such awe and wonder. When I’m in those places, everything within me begins to connect with the Creator. Even just experiencing the daily sunrise is a continual reminder that our God is alive. He was intentional with such an eye for detail in all He created.

There have been times as I’ve looked out over the ocean or sat among the trees that I felt this sense that all creation was worshipping Him. The ocean with the clap of the waves, the trees bowing in the wind, the mountains standing at attention. Psalm 148:1-13 is a beautiful depiction which says, “Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord from the heavens; praise him in the heights! Praise him all his angels; praise him all his hosts! Praise him, sun and moon, praise him, all you shining stars! Praise him you highest heavens, and you waters above the heavens! Let them praise the name of the Lord! For he commanded and they were created. And he established them forever and ever; he gave a decree, and it shall not pass away. Praise the Lord from the earth, you great sea creatures and all deeps, fire and hail, snow and mist, stormy wind fulfilling his word! Mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars! Beasts and all livestock, creeping things and flying birds! Kings of the earth and all people, princes and all rulers of the earth! Young men and maidens together, old men and children! Let them praise the name of the Lord, for his name alone is exalted; his majesty is above earth and heaven."

My goodness! Couldn't you just see the picture of all the earth praising the name of the Lord? Psalm 19:1 says "The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork." If all of creation glorifies Him, how much more should we? We were created specifically to not only worship Him, but to fellowship with Him. Through our fellowship as we spend time with God and learn more of Him, should grow the sense of awe and wonder of who He is, with an increasing desire to worship Him even more. Sometimes, all we can do is be quiet and still. Other times, we are moved with emotions that can't be held back; an overwhelming feeling of reverence and admiration. Incredible reverence and awe of the Creator who, in His majesty, formed it all just by speaking a word. Lord, we stand in awe with all of creation to declare Your glory and the wonder of who You are!

If you have not met the great architect of the universe, I pray that something you read today has stirred up the desire to know Him. The first step is simply believing. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities – all things were created through him and for him.

All the earth worships you and sings praises to you; they sing praises to your name.

Psalm 19:1 / ESV

The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
